All you Need to Know about Mrs. Weekes:
1. I UNDERSTAND HARD WORK! I started my degree when I was 19 years old. It took me 14 years to finally complete it! Over the course of those 14 years I had 3 kids, moved across the country 6 times, lived in 17 different houses, raised puppies, had 8 surgeries, and more. I know the value of fighting to get to your goal. I know that perseverance pays off. And you better believe I do not believe in giving up!
2. I REALLY REALLY LOVE ENGLISH - even though I am in no way perfect at it! I learned a long time ago that I can love something without mastering it. That is how I feel about English. I love it - truly love it - but I still don't know everything there is to know, and that is okay.
3. I LIKE YOU. Yes - YOU! At the end of the day, for some weird reason, the universe has made it so that our paths have crossed. This must mean you have something to give me: a lesson learned, a thought to think, a smile to smile. You have value to me, which means I am grateful for you. What this doesn't mean is that I am a pushover or that I require less. In fact, this means I require more. I see your potential and I plan on helping you see it too.
4. I DEMAND RESPECT See number #1 - I worked a very long time to be here. I deserve your respect. But more than that - I am a person just like you. I have people I love and a life I live outside of this classroom. That means that I have feelings that are just as important as yours. If you want to receive respect you have to give respect.
5. I BELIEVE IN YOU. This year is a crazy one for you and I get that. While one of our goals is to work together to try and master some concepts about plot, narratives, Greek mythology, argumentative and persuasive papers, poetry, researching, grammar, vocabulary, discussions, presentations, etc. our main goal is to help you believe in yourself. So, if English just "isn't your thing" - okay. Know that in this classroom, we may talk about English, but we are building character - your character. We are shaping you into the person you can be! Come with an open mind, an open heart, and open ears and let's see who you are!
